Great for learning what's out there to be
found:From Spritzdecor to Fat Lava: West and East German Ceramics, second edition (not "volume") This cd (in pdf format) pictures over 900 items and lists information on over 100 W. German pottery companies. You also get a large selection of marks and labels and profiles of 48 of the major designers. The cd is the equivalent of a 278 page book. (By comparison, the first book by Makus has only 171 pages of text and pictures, not counting the form number pages. "Fat Lava" published by Mark Hill has only about 139 pictures and covers only 18 companies.) Each of these books contains more information about W. German pottery than any other book printed in English. Together, they provide the most comprehensive documentation currently available on the subject, making them essential for collectors and dealers who want to be well-informed. Don't be mislead by the size. Unlike books, cds just don't get bigger when packed with more information, but this one is loaded. For price and shipping: If you live in the US, Canada, or elsewhere in the Americas, contact ginfor@earthlink.net If you live in Europe, Asia, Australia or related regions, contact the author, or go to Retrominded.com and click on "Contact". Great for identifying what you've
found: West and East German Pottery: Marks, Bases, Decors, and Form
Numbers, third edition (not "volume")This cd (in pdf format) includes 3 sections of marks, bottoms and labels: commercial potteries, studio potteries, and porcelain companies. There is also information on types of clay used by different companies, lists of decors, year of introduction, and designer (when known). Then there is an extensive list of form numbers and sizes, the companies that used them and year/era used. The first book by Makus has about 2500 form numbers listed and doesn't include the different sizes. This cd includes several times as many form numbers, plus the sizes so far known. There's no book with comparable information on marks/labels and decors. Research continues, but this is by far the most extensive collection of numbers, sizes, marks, clay color used, decors, and designers yet on the market. The Makus books and "Fat Lava" combined don't come close. Each of these books contains more information about W. Get both cds, and you'll quickly be among the best informed collectors/researchers in the great new field of West German pottery. You'll know Scheurich from Carstens in a wink, and you'll even know Hanns Welling and the difference between his "Paris" decor for Keto and his "Paris" decor for Ruscha. |

Please take the time to let us know what you think about the site, the look, the language, photos, items, prices, etc. If you have any questions, comments, or good ideas for conversation, feel free to contact us. There should be e-mail links on every page, and the actual address is ginfor@earthlink.net Guarantee: We have a simple, "If you aren't happy, we aren't happy" policy. If you open a package and suddenly wonder why you bought it in the first place, you can return it for a full refund of your purchase price and the shipping one way. Your only risk is the cost to ship it back to us. If it turns out that we made a mistake, then we pay the shipping both ways. I won't say "no questions asked" because we will ask so we'll know how to make fewer mistakes. Payment terms:
We try not to be overly picky about the details. If we can
put it in the bank and pay some bills without any undo fuss, then we'll
probably take it. We're quite happy to take checks and money orders, and we're signed up
with Paypal, which is the
easiest route if you want to pay by credit card. If you have
some other method in mind, get in touch, and we'll see what we can work
out. Monopoly money, anything you may have printed in the
basement, and chickens are right out. Head for the GinFor's |
