Scheurich, Schäffenacker/Schlossberg/Steuler, Ü-Keramik/Uhlemeyer These three are shown together because they are such a similar type, and direct comparison seems more important than alphabetical order. Although they did other work, these companies are best known for the items with incised decoration and stains or washes rather than fired on glazes. They all used the same red clay, had flat bottoms, and used similar numbering systems. The Sawa cuts tend to be deeper than the others and more precise. Eiwa often included a pattern name on the bottom, a female name or city name, but Wekara may have done similar notations at times. |

Sawa![]() ![]() Sawa Designs tend to be more deeply cut, more precise, and more intricate compared to Eiwa or Wekara. |
Eiwa![]() ![]() Eiwa "Rita" Eiwa items often have the design name incised, usually a female name. SP At the moment, this label has not been attributed to a specific company. The work is particularly close to Sawa in style and quality. In all likelihood, this is a Sawa vase with a label from a retailer or import/export company. ![]() ![]() Sawa? |
Eiwa/Wekara
![]() ![]() Probably by Wekara To add to the confusion, Dümler & Breiden and other companies also did similar work. D&B ![]() ![]() The Dümler & Breiden versions usually have some variation of this "textile" looking decoration, and they often have the D&B mark with the letters appearing as the pommels on crossed swords. |
